Separation — A Democrat Fantasy

It is disgusting what is said today regarding ‘separation of church and state’.  Too often what is quoted is simply fantasy.  The following article was in the local newspaper and clarifies the separation clause.  That reference means that the ‘state’ shall not define churches as government sanctioned entities.

By Don Volz — Guest Column published in the New Braunfels Herald-Zeitung, Friday, February 19, 2016

At the outset we need to get one thing straight. There is no “separation of church and state” language in the Constitution.  Neither that phrase, nor any semblance of it, exists anywhere in
the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, or in the Federalist Papers that describe those documents.

The phrase “a wall of separation between church and state” first appeared in 1802, in President Thomas Jefferson’s response to a complaint received from a Baptist Association in Danbury, Connecticut. Historians agree that Jefferson’s letter was not an assertion that public discourse must be free from religious expression. In fact, Jefferson’s actual aim was quite the opposite —
he wanted public religious expression to be free from government restriction or coercion.

Jefferson strongly opposed the state-established churches that existed in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and other states at the time, but he knew that as President he had to respect them. Still, he was deeply committed to religious liberty, as evidenced by the Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom that he wrote more than a decade earlier.

The purpose of Jefferson’s response to the Danbury Baptists was to reassure them that the First Amendment created a “wall of separation” to keep the state from interfering with their religious practices, not to somehow imprison or constrain their free exercise of religion.

Modernist liberal justices, atheists, secular humanists and their allies in the Democrat party have ignored the meaning and context of Jefferson’s words. They’ve distorted Jefferson’s intent by injecting a mythical “wall of separation” into American jurisprudence without any Constitutional or legal foundation whatsoever. They preach the phrase as if it were a bedrock principle of American law when it is nothing of the sort. They do so with the impudence of Adam and Eve, elevating man-made laws above the truly foundational “Laws of Nature and Nature’s God,” as Jefferson so eloquently named the latter in the Declaration of Independence.

Sadly, many Christian Democrats and “Progressives” use the mythical “wall of separation between church and state” to avoid confronting the glaring conflict between their professed Christianity and their party politics. In their private lives they claim to be Christian. Yet in their public lives, they endorse and sponsor decidedly un-Christian behaviors like abortion, infanticide, homosexual acts, sexual promiscuity, adultery, and euthanasia — behaviors that clearly conflict with “the Laws of Nature and Nature’s God.” They claim to be Disciples of Christ, but in their public lives they are disciples of deceitful and untrustworthy leaders like Hillary Clinton, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama.

In this respect, many Christian Democrats increasingly exemplify “a house divided against itself.” We know from Jesus’ words in Mark 3:25 that such houses cannot stand.

Like our Founding Fathers before us, true Christians place God’s word above man-made law and party politics in every aspect of their lives. True Christians do not hide behind a mythical “wall of separation between church and state.” True Christians share the Gospel message through both their words and their actions. True Christians heed Jesus’ words of warning in Luke 17:2 and do not defend, support, enable or excuse the sinful behavior of others.

2016 Potentially a ‘Scary Year’ for the West

Once again intelligence tells us that a very bad ‘storm‘ is coming our way.  There are so many indicators of disaster in our near future that it should, if nothing else, motivate us to prepare.  The following are reports on ISIS and their plans — which are no simple threat.

Why I Won’t Vote for Trump

I was approached by someone recently and told, “All politicians are liars.  You don’t know which one to believe.”  Which is difficult to argue.  But I would submit is that a person’s history (what they have done) says a lot more than what they say.

The following is a YouTube ‘audio’ of one of Glenn Beck’s radio shows.  Although Trump tells one story, his past tells another.  This audio covers a great deal of his history and exposes what his real character was then and now.  If he kills all trust in him in the past, why should we trust him today!!?

Consider the above when it comes time to vote.

The Threat Still Exists

It’s been awhile since the San Bernardino incident involving the two jihadists.  And like 911, I assume that America is slowing going back to sleep..?  However, the threat has not subsided, it has grown!

The following article discusses a newly discovered book written for those wishing to strike ‘western’ cities and people.  It describes how to disguise yourself so that you can not be discovered easily.  When I first read it, I thought I’d verify the veracity of the story.  So I Googled ‘Safety and Security Guidelines for Lone Wolf’.  (Try it.)  I was struck by the number of hits I received and decided the Israelis are probably a good source (below).  The following is the original article that caught my attention.

ISIS Playbook – Look Like Western Christians

Both are well worth reading.  Maybe we should consider this sort of information when thinking about admitting ‘Christians’ in the country?  But who knows..?

America’s ‘Current’ View on Abortion

We hear the ‘A’ word used a lot in this country and the media leads us to believe that only a few religious crazies want to stop/reduce abortions.  Apparently that isn’t true.

The following commentary was written by a friend for the local paper and his source was the Knights of Columbus.  That source information is available here.  (The charts make for greater visible understanding.)

There IS a Consensus on Abortion

By Don Volz. — Guest Column published in the New Braunfels Herald-Zeitung, Saturday, January 30, 2016

Believe it or not, there’s a lot of consensus about abortion in America these days. That consensus is growing every year, notwithstanding a media blackout that tries to hide it from the American people.

A new Marist Poll was released Tuesday, January 19, with findings that may surprise you. However, it’s not surprising that you may not have heard about it. The Main Stream Media (MSM) does its best to ignore, play down, and outright distort how the majority of Americans feel about abortion. The Associated Press, Reuters, the New York Times, the Washington Post, USA Today, ABC, BBC, CBS, NBC, and yes, even the Fox News Channel on occasion, are the leading MSM offenders. Most large metropolitan daily newspapers and TV network affiliates are guilty by association.

The MSM persistently peddles the myth that America will be forever split on the abortion issue by focusing on the fact that Americans self-identify as either pro-life or pro-choice in roughly equal numbers. That perpetual focus on pro-life and pro-choice labels is a smokescreen designed to conceal Americans’ widespread support for reasonable abortion restrictions. It illustrates yet again why the MSM has lost its credibility with the American people.

The Marist survey cleared away the smoke, revealing that the great majority of Americans support tougher restrictions on abortion, including this bombshell: more than 6 out of 10 pro-choice individuals favor banning abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy, except to save the life of the mother. No wonder the MSM ignored the survey.

Overall, the survey found that an astounding 81 percent of Americans favor significant restrictions on access to abortion, including limiting abortion to the first trimester of pregnancy, cases of incest or rape, or cases where the mother’s life is seriously at risk. That group includes 66 percent of the respondents who self-identified as pro-choice. That last statistic bears repeating – two thirds of pro-choice Americans oppose unrestricted access to abortion.

Opponents of abortion restrictions like to portray tougher abortion laws as evidence of the mythical “war on women.” How can that be true when 82 percent of the women surveyed in the poll say they favor restricting abortion to the first three months of pregnancy? The survey also found that 69 percent of women oppose taxpayer funding for abortion services. These findings suggest that unregulated and tax-subsidized abortion is the real war on women.

The survey showed that 68 percent of Americans oppose the use of public funds for abortion services. Even more telling, 51 percent of those who identify as pro-choice also oppose public funding for abortion. Yet, Planned Parenthood (PP) and other abortion providers continue to receive over $500 million in federal tax dollars every year. It’s little wonder that the MSM tries so hard to ignore, dismiss, and discredit the covert videos produced by the Center for Medical Progress – the often stomach-turning interviews with PP employees that exposed PP’s sordid ”unborn baby parts for sale” line of business.

Finally, there’s the MSM’s “coverage” of the January marches for life in Washington, D.C. and other North American cities every year. Historically, there has been little or no MSM coverage of these events, even though they consistently involve hundreds of thousands of people marching to renew a Culture of Life, often in the teeth of frigid, inhospitable weather. That coverage, when found, consists of deceptive headlines, misleading photos, and vastly understated participant counts, all intended to conceal abortion perspectives like those revealed in the Marist Poll.

MSM coverage of the January 22, 2016, Washington March for Life is a prime example. On the cusp of a historic blizzard, forty thousand or more committed souls of all ages, ethnicities, and genders braved the storm to participate. Yet the New York Times said the march attracted “hundreds” of participants and the Washington Post described the marchers as a “small, faithful crowd.”

The truth is that a large majority of Americans want abortion to be, at the very least, more restricted, more regulated, and far less commonplace than it is today. Planned Parenthood, NARAL, NOW, President Obama, and the Democrat party find that truth unacceptable. And that is why their MSM propagandists work so diligently to hide it.

It’s time to change the dialogue about abortion in America. It’s time we look beyond the deceptions and distortions promulgated by the MSM. It’s time to end the focus on pro-choice and pro-life labels that only serve to divide us. It’s time to concentrate on the abortion views we share, to seize the common ground. It’s time to change an abortion status quo that ‘We the People’ never asked for and never really supported. It’s time to enact the abortion restrictions that the vast majority of Americans support.

The referenced Marist Poll interviewed 1,686 adults across America and has a margin of error of +/- 2.4 percent.

You won’t hear about any of it from the MSM.

Religion in the U.S. and Statistics

I’ve heard so many conversations recently regarding Christians in the U.S. lately.  Consequently I thought it would be helpful to post some statistics regarding Christians.  Most in this post was obtained from Pew Research.

If you review the numerous charts available you should be able to glean out of them several bits of information.  Such as:  how people’s belief systems affect their judgement regarding right and wrong;  what age groups are more or less religious;  political affiliations;  philosophical leanings based on frequency of church attendance, etc.

Topics & Questions Regarding Religion in America

(Scroll down on the page to particularly view the ‘Topics & Questions’ information.)

I also added the following article regarding the current direction of the country with regard to religious activity in the U.S.

Christians Decline Sharply as Share of Population; Unaffiliated and Other Faiths Continue to Grow

Based on the above information, I would propose that the United States is moving away from being a Judaeo-Christian society and becoming more secular.  Which, should alter their value system and decision making process.
