Plan-B — Republican’s Insurance Plan

So is it a good thing?  Personally I’m not sure — I don’t trust Ryan to start.  And, the republicans have become democrat light over the last few decades.  So where does that put us?  I think you know.

But here’s an article that gave me a different slant on the insurance game.  From it, I get that we’ll get ‘the hose’ no matter which direction we go..?

Why Interstate Health Insurance Won’t Fix Obamacare

By Patrick Watson

Congress has a new healthcare plan to replace Obamacare. It may go nowhere since many Republicans aren’t happy with it… and the problems it tries to solve will remain.

Worse, anything that gets past the House and Senate may not matter if insurers refuse to play in 2018. The big ones haven’t committed yet.

If the new plan doesn’t fly and Obamacare collapses, as seems likely, what’s Plan C?

President Trump listed several ideas in his speech to Congress last week. Among them was this:

The time has come to give Americans the freedom to purchase health insurance across state lines—which will create a truly competitive national marketplace that will bring costs way down and provide far better care.

That sounds practical and conservative. Just reduce regulations, and the free market will provide.

Often, that’s true. This time, it’s not.

To find out what the problem is, look no further than a deal Citibank made with South Dakota 37 years ago.

Credit Card Loophole

When you read the fine print on one of your credit cards, you’ll likely see the issuer is a bank in South Dakota. It might be Delaware or Nevada, but probably South Dakota.

Why are the big banks issuing credit cards through South Dakota subsidiaries?

Back in 1980, with both inflation and interest rates at double-digit levels, banks were getting squeezed on credit card loans. State usury laws capped the interest rates they could charge borrowers, but not the banks’ own cost of funds.

Legendary Citibank Chairman Walter Wriston found a loophole. A 1978 Supreme Court ruling said banks could set consumer loan interest rates based on the state in which the bank was located, instead of the borrower’s state.

Wriston had been asking New York legislators to raise the usury limit so New York-based Citi could charge higher rates nationwide.

When they refused, he looked for friendlier politicians… and found them in South Dakota.

Wriston called then-Governor Bill Janklow with a generous offer. Here’s how a Frontline documentary described it.

In an effort to stimulate the local economy, South Dakota was in the midst of eliminating its usury laws. Mr. Wriston told Mr. Janklow that if South Dakota would quickly pass a bill inviting Citibank into the state, he would bring 400 jobs. To preempt concerns from local banks about new competition, Citibank also promised to open only “a limited” bank. “We’ll put the facility in an inconvenient place for customers and we’ll pay different interest rates,” Mr. Wriston recalled telling Mr. Janklow. “All we want to do is use it to issue cards.”

For Mr. Janklow, it was an easy decision.

“To me, this wasn’t a credit card deal, it was a jobs deal,” he said. “It was an economic opportunity for the state. I was slowly bleeding to death.”

With bipartisan support and backing from South Dakota’s banking association, Janklow proposed a special “emergency” bill. “Citibank actually drafted the legislation,” he said. “Literally we introduced it, and it passed our legislature in one day.”

The arrangement ultimately brought 3,000 high-paying jobs to South Dakota and a host of new suitors from banks across the country.

That’s why your credit cards come from South Dakota. Citibank literally picked its own regulator and wrote its own law. Delaware and Nevada later made similar moves, but South Dakota was first.

The result wasn’t all bad. Today, credit cards are widely available in every state. Your interest rate may be higher and your spending limit lower if you have poor credit, but you can probably get a card.

If you think enabling more Americans to take on more debt is a good idea, we have the perfect system to do it. But what we don’t have is competition between states.

In theory, banks in any state can issue credit cards. But good luck getting one that isn’t from South Dakota, Delaware, or Nevada. Those are the choices the banks give us.

Separate Risk Pools

A state-based national market for credit cards isn’t exactly the same as one for health insurance, but it’s similar in some ways.

Instead of usury limits, insurance companies face state laws mandating certain benefits that raise costs and reduce profits. They’re one reason health insurance premiums are higher in some states.

So if we let insurers sell health coverage across state lines, people can bypass all that and buy in a state whose insurers best suit their needs. Sounds great, right?

The problem is that health insurers will likely do what the banks do with credit cards: congregate in whichever state lets them do what they want—which is to insure only healthy people.

The result, within a couple of years, will be separated risk pools. Young, healthy consumers will buy stripped-down, low-priced policies from states that allow them, while older, sicker people all cluster in the few states willing to cover them at a reasonable cost—if any will.

Sound familiar? Something like that is why Obamacare isn’t working.

This is where the credit card analogy breaks down. No one has to have a credit card. You won’t die without one. But everyone will get sick or have an accident sooner or later.

There’s another problem: Providing health insurance isn’t as simple as just mailing someone a card and billing them every month. The insurer has to deliver care locally, wherever the customer lives. Building hospital and doctor networks is expensive.

Five states—Georgia, Kentucky, Maine, Rhode Island, and Wyoming—already did what President Trump suggests. They’ve opened their borders to insurers from other states.

Has it worked? Have insurers from other states rushed into these wide-open markets?

No, they haven’t. So erasing the state lines may not be as helpful as proponents think.

Insurance ≠ Care

Politicians choose their words carefully when they talk about this. They’ll often say everyone should have “access to health insurance.”

Sounds nice, but it misses a few things.

Access to health insurance is not the same as access to health care. People are learning that the hard way right now.

In many parts of the country, Obamacare plans come with deductibles of $5,000 or more. So you’re covered only after you’ve spent $5,000 that you probably don’t have.

Median household income in the US is only around $56,000. Median means half of all household incomes are below that amount, and few people have an extra $5,000 sitting around. They’re insured, yes, but they can’t afford to use their insurance even if tax credits cover the premiums.

So Obamacare isn’t the solution, because it’s not working either.

But interstate insurance is no cure. At best, it will leave us with the same problems Obamacare hasn’t solved. It might even make them worse.

I wrote last year how our healthcare system suppresses job creation and undermines economic growth. We need a better solution.

We know what doesn’t work. We need to find out what does.

See you at the top,

Rejecting ‘Immigrants’

The left has their hormones in a rage over Trump’s rejection of criminals and potential terrorists.  But, isn’t it ironic that Muslim countries are dumping people by the thousands ‘for their safety‘!!?  So what’s our story?  My answer would be because we’re not like other countries.

A nice thought.  But what does it really mean?  We’re either saints accepting of everyone without regard to our own survival.  Or we’ve been infected with people who want to change what this country really is — a place for freedom and safety.

Read the following article and then ask yourself why people in this country would be fighting so hard to ‘accept everyone‘ who knocks on our door.??  Maybe the next time someone knocks on your door at three in the morning you should just fling the door open and welcome in whoever is there.??  I seriously doubt that will happen…

Black History — The Hidden Truth

Many of us complain about how our children are no longer being taught relevant history to help them to not repeat history’s mistakes.  But in the case of this topic, many adults have no idea that such activity occurred in our past.  I know, I’m one of them.

When you have the opportunity, I strongly recommend your watching the video in the web-page referenced below.  It will tell a story of how two men, both blacks, had tremendous impact on this country’s segregation and ultimate freedom.  Quite the remarkable story — and true.

Demonstrators — A Second Opinion

I previously wrote about the current demonstrations in America and turmoil over Trump being elected.  (See – Demonstrators or Bolsheviks — Part II )  It would seem that I am not alone in my view.  The following article from Conservative Republican Texas News also points out the ‘mechanism’ behind this turmoil.  It is brief, but corroborates my earlier article.

Trump Demonstrators

I only wrote this article to demonstrate that there are others brave enough to discuss the movement in this country that is threatening our future.

Rape Is OK — Under Shariah Law

Heard about any rapes in Europe lately?  Heard that the percentage increases are staggeringly high?  Think this may have something to do with someone’s ideology?  If you do, the answer to all of these questions is a resounding YES!!

Sweden’s rape reports are through the roof (among other European countries also).  And the common denominator is that the vast majority of them are being committed by Muslims.  If you can accept those facts, the next thing is to explain is, why would Muslims disproportionately commit the act of rape?

The answer can be found in the Koran (Quran).  If a Muslim determines that the person in question is an infidel, they are subject to Dhimmitude (Serfdom) and Jhiza (Tax).  Dhimmitude is the equivalent to slavery.  Any infidel who lives with the Muslim has no rights and can be taken as a slave by any Muslim.  The implication being that the ‘slave’ can be raped without fear of sin — the rapist is still considered clean according to Shariah law — i.e., Islamists.

Apparently a relatively recent convert to Islam at Georgetown university is right in line with the Islamists according the to the following article.

Georgetown professor under fire

What scares me is, this is just the beginning if allowed to spread in this country.  The radicals are yelling about racism and bigotry to those who stand up to the ‘bullies’.  But truth be known, this is all part of the theocracy of Islam which will NOT go away without a fight.  The question is, do the American people have the intestinal fortitude to stand up to these thugs.??

If not, your kids or grand-kids will be living with this insanity in the not too distant future.  I assume you don’t want your granddaughter raped…  by anyone?

Our Blended World?

Today I received a Facebook post from someone in California.  On the surface it looks very innocuous.  But if you pay attention, it is a political indictment of our current president — embedded within a lot of feel good talk.  Surprise?  No.

When do you estimate we’ll get over this destructive activity of our society from within?  And how much pain do you think we’ll have to go through and for how long before we catch on?  My guess is, a lot over a long time..?  Sad indeed.

Blended World

But, it was once predicted by the Russians during the cold that we would be destroyed not with A-bombs, but by our own hand.  Oh, and by the way, Abraham Lincoln said the same thing over 100 years ago!!  How can an enlightened society be so stupid??

Dearbornistan — What’s The Problem?

Being a racist is being a person who hates based on ‘surface’ values only.  Hating for the sake of hating, is and always will be wrong.  We are told not to hate — we are to love.  Any one of us can find something or someone to hate for a myriad of reasons.  It’s easy to do.  After all, we all make mistakes.

To look at things objectively, evaluate, and then decide what is right or wrong, is what we should do.  But when physical evidence points out that evil is threatening our way of life, it is time that we stand up for ourselves.  Just like facing the bully at school, we must protect ourselves from evil.  Being complacent will never rid us of those who want to destroy us.

Unfortunately, we do have people in this country who want to destroy our way of life.  I know, I watched California turn from what I thought was the perfect place to live to a place of fear, corruption, hate, and a lost sense of hope — which is why I’m not there any longer.

You’ve probably heard of what has happened to Dearborn, Michigan — but with how much detail?  Did you see what has happened?  If not, watch the following short video which gives you a quick tour of that city.

Dearborn, Michigan — Today

Now ask yourself, how many years will it take to turn this entire country into a third world land driven by sharia law and those who disregard our laws and hate our values?  Trust me, it won’t be long at the rate we’re going!!

Pew Research & Statistics — Police

I have referred to Pew Research a lot more than once or twice in the past on this blog.  But, I am currently cautious of referring to them without reviewing their findings a great deal.  I have found that they report ‘statistically’ what is happening in the topic being researched.  But one needs to look at the bias and tone of the report while reading it.  Sometimes the way things are written influences the reader to form a specific opinion — wording matters.

The following report speaks of police shootings and who is doing the shooting.  Having read the report, I can see a great deal of ‘fact’ in it.  But I found that the way they compare the ‘shooting cop’ (the minority) with the others is a bit slanted.  The impression the report gives me is that police who have used deadly force are prone to using force in general — not a fair comparison in my opinion.  But you can read the report yourself and come to your own conclusion.

Police officers who have fired their weapon on duty

A key point to consider is if you have hundreds of thousand of people on the streets with guns with the public’s authority to use deadly force, you’d think a LOT of people would be killed every year.  But you’ll find that it isn’t the case.

I must admit it is a sorry state when you start to question an organization like Pew Research.  But due to political correctness, many of us question almost everything we read, much less what we hear!

Demonstrators or Bolsheviks — Part II

If you didn’t read part one of this topic, please do before continuing as this article builds on the first.  Demonstrators or Bolsheviks?

Allow me to briefly state what my previous articles on communism within the United States would have told you.

The communist party within America has been trying to convert this country into a communist state for 100 years.  As hard as that may be to believe, there are plenty of historical facts to prove it.  They have used their common set of tools to morph this country from a hard working, Christian valued mass of society into one that is more self-centered with an attitude of being entitled than any time before.  They, the communists, have cloaked themselves in many ways including changing their name from communist to progressive.  Today we use the term socialist and progressive when we are really referring to communists.  What is the proof of this change?

If you look at the facts of our economics you will find that we are giving away more entitlements than any other time in our history.  The unemployed during the last eight years has been at times as high as it was during our first serious depression during the 1930’s.  The only reason we don’t have as many soup kitchens today is because we’re feeding (food stamps) almost 50% of the population with tax payer money!  Consequently we don’t feel the impact quite as much as we did then.  (In 1993 president Clinton changed the way unemployment was calculated making the numbers much smaller.)

To my point:

If you buy into the idea that the ‘party’ has been at work converting our capitalist society into a communist state for 100 years, then you can imagine how threatened they would be if anyone seriously made progress toward unraveling that effort.  Enter Donald Trump…

Trump has been in office now for less than three weeks.  Yet we’re seeing an insane level of demonstrations, rioting, destruction, etc.  Why all the upset you ask?  To my point, because they are threatened.  And like the bolsheviks, they will continue to do this as long as the new direction continues.  As Trump demonstrates more ‘success’, they will up their game and create more spectacular ‘demonstrations’.  In their mind, this is a battle that cannot be lost — much like the slave masters in our first civil war.

When I say ‘they’ you might think that ‘they’ are not all communists — which would be true.  Those who are not actual communists or anarchists are poleznym idiots (see part-I).  They wish to fight for a ‘righteous cause’ regardless if it makes sense or not.  They are in the right!  They are special people fighting for the underdog.  Common sense does not apply here.  It is what makes them feel good about themselves that counts.

The good news as I see it is that the majority of Americans fit the American mold — work hard, stay out of trouble, do what is right for the country, and support leadership that supports those values.  If we are the 70% and hold true to our values, fight for what is biblically right, then we will turn this country back around — with pain, but we’ll win.
