Global Warming… Again.?!

They never stop..?  When will they ever give it up??  Answer?  When this country has fallen.  When ‘they’ have total control.

What the heck are you talking about, you ask?  This week we heard on the mainstream news that the ‘bees’ are leaving the lower half of the country because of rising temperatures..?  Yes, just after the coldest winter we’ve had in awhile.  (And so far this summer it’s been cooler!  Yeaa!)

Well, now I find the article below which takes a bit of wind out of their sails.  But hey, what do facts have to do with it.!?  Where do they get theirs?  From temperature gauges placed next to water heaters.?!  (Believe it or not, there has been evidence documented where such things have happened with the ‘collectors’.)

IBM Layoffs — The Rest of the Story

The grand old typewriter company has grown over several decades into a huge corporation employing 100’s of thousands of people all over the world.  Before the 90’s IBM was a ‘full employment’ company — you get hired, you’re there for the duration.  But around 1993 that all changed…

With the hiring of Lou Gershner (aka, the hatchet man), IBM decided to trim down a bit.  Having 400,000 employees world wide, one can fairly assume there was some ‘fat’ in the company.  So, they dumped 150,000 people!  As a result, the stock price jumped and the company looked good!  Ultimately however (over several years) they hired people back into the company and they were back up to 400,000 world wide.

Ah, but wait, there’s the rest of the story.  At that time IBM had 250,000 employees inside the U.S. and 150K in other countries.  Until recently (this year), they had 400K again.  But, the employees within the U.S. is now closer to 60,000!!  Why?  Because they can get Russian programmers as an example for 1/4th the cost of an American.  The Indians for 1/8th.  And the Chinese for even less!!  Of course we don’t care about ‘quality’ any longer.?

What is stunning is the fact that IBM refuses to report their layoffs per government order.  And to help hide their actions, they layoff a few at a time so as to not bring attention to themselves.  And from what I hear, they are significantly reducing their ‘sales’ workforce..?  I’m not sure how that works?  But then I’m not a ‘gifted’ corporate executive…

What’s your point you ask?  My point is simply this.  If America is going to reignite this country’s GDP, we’re going to need to start ‘producing something’, a LOT of somethings.  Consuming products does not make for a healthy economy.  Making things does.  It’ll be interesting to see where IBM ends up.??

Smartphones and Your Attention Span

In my earlier blog I mention the affects of radio waves (RF) to your head/mind.  Well, it appears there is yet more evidence that points to your phone causing a shortening of your ‘attention span’.!!  The following text is from an advisory I receive and is very interesting.

Smartphones and Your Attention Span

For us older folks, we probably spend more time on the computer than on a phone.  Phones are for talking right?  And you thought is was everyone else that’s the problem!!?

Cell Phone Use and Your Health

We all own a cell phone and use them often.  The question is, do they harm us?  Let me share with you some education I received while studying for my ham radio licensing test. Please take just a few moments to get the basics.  You will see why your cell phone may be causing you serious physical problems and you not even knowing it…   yet.  I’ll try to be brief.

All radios do two things, send and receive signals.  Sending of signals is via radio waves out the antenna.  Receiving those signals is via an antenna and electronics converting those radio frequency (RF) signals to an audio signal (sound).  Ham radios are typically made in two forms:  mobile units and handheld devices (‘walkie talkies’).  The mobile units are higher powered transmission devices ranging from 150mhz to 1.2Ghz and 5 watts to 40+ watts.  Handheld ham radios use the same frequencies, but their power is 1-5 watts.

So how would these radios hurt us and what do ‘radio signals’ have to do with YOU?  The answer is, they can damage human cells!!  How you ask?  Via the transmitting of signals, not receiving them.  Whereas a mobile radio (one in a car) has the antenna several feet from you, handhelds have the radio possibly 1″ to 0″ from your head!!  This can be a problem depending on two things — the frequency being used and the power of transmission.  A lower frequency transmission with high power can hurt humans, and a higher frequency transmission with a low power can also.

So how does this relate to cell phones?  Cell phones are typically in the gigahertz range, but lower power.  The way they can hurt you is by ‘cooking your brain’.  How’s that you ask?  Because they are mini-microwave ovens!!  Microwave ovens use radio waves to cook food.  Your cell phone when transmitting is sending out those microwaves (high frequency RF) into your head!  Depending on how often you use your phone and for how long, it can be impacting your brain!  If you keep your phone in your pocket and use a Bluetooth device to hear and speak, the phone can be sending those waves into your groin area.  (I’ll leave that topic to your imagination.)

So how do I avoid physical problems when using my cell phone?  Keep it away from your body.  Use the external speaker feature or a Bluetooth headset device.  The Bluetooth devices are designed to only travel a few feet, therefore the power rating is very low.  Your cell phone has to hit a tower miles away!!  Imagine the difference in power between the two!!?

I ran across the following article and wanted to share it with you to show that cell phones have not been proven entirely safe.  Over several years they can impact our health and possibly our life span.  Please read the following.

Cell Phone Radiation Could be Changing Your Brain

Maybe that long conversation isn’t that important after all??

IT Jobs in the U.S. — An Example

Having worked at IBM for 20 years, I have some insight into what was going on within the company.  During the early 90’s IBM had approximately 400,000 employees world wide — 250,000 of those employees were within the U.S.  Around 1993 Lou Gershner took the helm and became the grand hatchet man!!  Within about 1-1.5 years he shaved 150,000 employees from the rolls — we were down to ~250K total.

Now today IBM is back up to about 400K employees world wide.  However, less than 100K of those jobs are in the U.S.!!  What happened you ask?  A LOT of American jobs went to India and China!!  They started moving jobs to Russia, but found they were too expensive — ~$25K/year!!  I personally talked to Indian technical people with masters degrees who were paid less than $20K/year.  And when they try to get a job within the U.S, they don’t get paid any more!!?  (Now you see why they have 6-10 people in one apartment here.)

Read the numbers and activity over the past several years here.

Sharyl Attkisson’s Computer Hacking

Anyone who’s been awake over the last year knows about the NSA’s monitoring of everyone in this country (or they should know).  Their data storage facility in Utah is capable of holding unbelievable amounts of information on everyone in this country — for years!

Although, some do not believe this sort of thing is happening…  for real.  Well, you should ask Sharyl Attkisson.  She has a story that should curl your hair.  The following video at the beginning tells of her experience as an investigative reporter and how she has looked into the Bengazi affair.  More importantly, toward the end of the interview they show her own film of our government controlling her computer at home and erasing information from it.  You really should watch this stunning video.

Living and Working in the U.S.A. — Part II

It is understandable that corporations have the motivation to survive, just like any other human.  However, like their human counterparts, they should consider the ‘other guy’ as well as themselves.

As a continuation of my recent article ‘Living and Working in the U.S.A.‘, I received an update from the friend who sent the email included in that article.  Just when you think you are totally shocked at how a corporation could be so calloused and impersonal, you see even worse behavior.

His update (paraphrased for security reasons) goes something like this:

After working a little more than 15 hours per week all year, they were told that their salary (hourly wage) would be cut by 30%, effective immediately, until January.

In their notification, they were told that this action was of a ‘confidential nature’ and that they could not share it with anyone inside or outside of IBM.  In short, if the tree falls in the forest and no one is told, I guess the tree really didn’t fall..?

I guess the main reason I enter this article is to inform the public that corporate America is really in trouble.  If one of the top bluechip corporations in this country behaves in this manner, one should ask who else takes such actions.  And, how much of a recovery do we really have?

And for those of you who invest in IBM, you should find the following article by Forbes to be of import.

Death Of The (IBM) Salesman

Living and Working in the U.S.A.

We constantly hear how the economy is improving and things are going to be great any day now.  And those of us who are still working are happy with our situation.  If we’re retired, we’re probably not happy with interest rates and our income — not to mention the cost of living.  (But hey, the CPI is till way below 2%, right?!)

In 1993 I was working for one of the top IT service bureaus in the U.S.  Although we were doing great, the corporation wasn’t.  Once things got desperate enough, they sold the IT division off via an outsourcing contract to IBM to whitewash their books — and it worked… for awhile.

So, one day I had my old badge taken and I was given a shiny new IBM badge.  I thought, “Great this should be a good deal in the long run.  Right?”  Not so fast, it was about that time that IBM hired Lou Gershner as their new CEO (aka, the ‘hatchet man’).

Shortly after he started his ‘house cleaning’.  In 1993 IBM had 400,000 employes world wide.  Of them, 250,000 were inside the U.S.  When Lou was done, he had cut 150,000 employes!!  Wow!  Those were lean days!

Since, IBM has grown back to 400,000 employes.  However there are now only 60-90K within the U.S. (depending on who you ask).  BUT, there are rumors afoot suggesting they intend to cut another 28% of employes within the U.S.!!!  And people wonder why our economy is stalling..?!

The  narrative below is from an email I received recently from a guy who I worked/consulted with (remotely).  He once made about the same salary as I, but got laid off for over two years.  He was subsequently called back at half his salary with no benefits!!  But, he was at least glad he had stopped the hemorrhaging from his 401K to pay bills.  Now today, he has been cut back to part-time employment and is back to struggling with day to day expenses.

My point is, he does not count when it comes to ‘ reporting unemployment‘.  Read his update from him below (as an example) and learn the fate of thousands of people within this country (who’s stories are not reported) and ask yourself, how will these people survive in the near future?!

I’ve been working 32-hour weeks most of the year.  I  managed to get a full 40-hour week only three weeks this year (it was only 13 weeks last year).  Then in mid-September, as part of cost cutting, I was told to stop support of all of the internal systems (there were well over 100 separate mainframe systems involved).  My management escalated this decision to a fairly high level  They said “Nope.  And if things break, they break.  So be it.”

But it gets even better.  I was also told I could not fill the week with the commercial accounts I support.  I can only work the average of what I billed to commercial the past quarter.  So, since the first of October, I am limited to working a little over 15 hours per week (that’s 38% of a normal work week).  So I only work Mondays and Tuesdays.  And I’m also back to taking early withdrawals from my retirement savings to pay the bills.  I don’t
have much left after dipping into it the two years I was unable to find work when I was first let go.

On top of that, my teammate was also told to take off over 27 days without pay from mid-October until the end of the financial year (and the four days the company is closed
around Thanksgiving and Christmas do not count).  So he is basically working only 42% of a regular schedule.  So there isn’t much coverage at all.

Who knows what’s going to happen after the first of the year?   Rumor has it on the site where employees are posting what else is happening that there could be another massive layoff between now and the end of February.

I was talking to someone in one of the security auditing groups today, and even though their work levels have not gone down, their headcount has been reduced in the past year from 40 people to 13.  That could explain why it took them four months to complete a simple userid request I submitted back in July.

Even though the company publicly gave up on that “Road Map 2015” plan and the $20 EPS goal, they are still in cutting mode.  I suspect they still have bonuses and stock options geared to the stock price, as they just announced that they are going to spend
another $5 Billion buying back the stock!  And that’s not cash they have on hand.  They’re going to BORROW the money to do that!

It reminds me of the famous line that Wimpy used to say in the old Popeye cartoons: “I’ll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today.”  Only I suspect that none of the people
in Armonk plan to be anywhere in sight when Tuesday rolls around.

It’s obvious that all they are interested in is raiding all of the money possible for themselves, then they will bail, with no concern with the thousands of lives they have destroyed.

The modern day version of rape and pillage.

Meanwhile, Google announced that they will INVEST $1.2 Billion in things like space exploration, aviation, rover/robotics and other emerging technologies.

I’m in job search mode – AGAIN – and it is worse than it was for me in 2005.  Of  course, I’m now nine years older (I turned 59 last month).  As you probably know from your own job searches, no one cares about your overall knowledge.  You can only do what you’ve done the last 2, 3, or 5+ years.  There is no room for learning anymore.  If you didn’t do it full time, it doesn’t count.

Part of this may be that “con game” I’ve read so much about the past few years.  Companies post job openings with a laundry list of unrealistic requirements, then bemoan the fact that there are
supposedly no qualified Americans for those jobs.  Next they go begging the government for more H-1B visas to bring over here “skilled” workers from foreign countries.  Which was their goal all along — bring in basically slave labor at the expense of the hard working and dedicated Americans.

Unfortunately I’m now singing the comedian Dennis Leary’s song “It’s a Merry F***ing Christmas”.  Ho. Ho. Ho.

Considering that 70% of our current GDP consists of ‘consumption’ within the U.S., how will this situation improve our national economy?  If we don’t get more people back to work in this country, how will we survive in the long run?

P.S.

Maybe it would be a good idea to get rid of that IBM stock you’ve grown so fond of.?!

Understanding America’s Vulnerability

To be forewarned is to be forearmed.  I have mentioned before a three-headed threat which we face today — that is real.  If I were the only person who warned people of this threat, then it would be reasonable to assume that I was a nut-case.  But I am seeing more and more well respected people talking about the same issue with grave seriousness.  That threat is an EMP — natural or man made.

The following video created by Hillsdale college,  is a terrific lecture on this topic which takes someone from unaware to well informed in just a few minutes.  I’d suggest watching at least the first twenty minutes of it to fully understand the threat and its impact.  The key point here is to ‘prepare‘, just in case.

Video on Threats Facing the U.S.  (You can skip to the 3:30 mark.)

Note that the ‘Shield Act‘ addresses making these threats of little consequence at very small expense.  (HR 2417)  Although it was written and submitted to congress in June of 2013, it has yet been recognized or even voted on..?  One must ask ‘why’ this sort of behavior should exist.?  Ignorance?  Arrogance?  Or worse, other..?

This website explains what it is, its purpose, etc. in simple terms.  Or you can read the text from the link above (HR 2417).

Are Pin-codes History?

It would appear that there is significant effort being expended on ‘cleaning up’ the credit card industry and its security.  There are multiple companies working on alternative security options for cards to insure that the person using them are the actual owners.

The following video demonstrates one option being pursued in Europe which may make it here in the U.S. within the next year or so.

Zwipe Mastercard

My only question is, how does this work when buying on-line??
